Winter Traditions

Before anyone tells me it is not yet winter, know that I am aware the Solstice has not yet arrived.

It's funny, I'm not used to winter appearing around me so early. In fact it was "beginning to look a lot like Christmas" on Halloween. At least in my opinion it was. I'm sure that in a few more years this "early" transition into the cold months will begin to seem natural... maybe.

I put out my Christmas lights early, because we had snow, and because we had guests coming from Texas who had never witnessed so much un-melting snow at once in their lives. That, in itself, was merry and festive. They arrived the day after Halloween. I'm waiting to go all out on the decorating because, as an American, I'm still waiting one more week for the last Autumn holiday to pass. I say that like it's a drag, but I'm actually excited and expecting it to be fun.

Putting on a cozy winter classic

With the first snowfall each year my mother-in-law and sister-in-law watch the snowy classic White Christmas. I was invited this year and thoroughly enjoyed girls night and sing-along-ing.

Usually my mother, sister, and I watch another classic, The Snowman, over the winter holiday break, whether we have the luxury of snow or not. So last week, on another snowy night, I lit a cozy candle and put it on while I folded laundry. I subsequently found out my new husband had never partaken in this family tradition so we immediately watched it again. We've now watched it about seven times. I'm currently listening to the soundtrack. Is it excessive? Maybe. But it's too early for Christmas music and too snowy not to have Christmas music. This is the perfect middle ground. Here's a link to the sweet film if you'd like to watch it yourself.

Christmas lights are already going up all around town. I'm so excited to slowly approach the Advent and Christmas season. What are your plans for the next month or so? We're expecting one more special visitor before too long!

Here's to a wonderful end to this beautiful year!
